Twitter is soooooooooo much better than CNN because news is tweeted by people AT THE SCENE without the filter of editors or people who know how to write things, ok? It’s fucking awesome. From now on, I’m getting all my news from Twitter! Screw you, mass media!
I encourage everyone who reads this to get a Twitter account for exactly this reason. You don’t even have to Tweet. 90% of Twitter users barely Tweet, according to Mashable’s number crunching.
I got a call a few months ago that a local landmark was burning down and instantly went on Twitter Search to find if anyone locally was saying anything about it. Sure enough, a few people were.
After that, I wanted to go to Vail but I-70 was closed. Had Denver news said anything about it since the night before? Nope. But people were tweeting about it. Whether they wanted to go skiing like me or they were stuck out somewhere on the road, they were telling the rest of the Twitter community what was going on and sure enough, I-70 was still closed. That was Vail Fail 2 of the ski season.
If you have a basic cable account and you’re fed up with news coverage, get a Twitter account. Do some searching, even if it isn’t for breaking news. You’ll find soon enough that what’s being talked about in up-to-the-minute updates blows away anything Wolf Blitzer is doing.
