Zack Shapiro has been blogging since 2004. His work has been featured on major websites and blogs such as The Unofficial Apple Weblog and Engadget as well as social news sites Digg.com and Reddit.com
A student at the Univeristy of Colorado at Boulder, Zack is in pursuit of a degree in Journalism with focuses on News Editorial and Technology/Media Studies. Zack is also in pursuit of a minor in business.
Zack is the Social Media Editor for the CU Independent, a student-run online-only news source focusing on news about CU. He has helped to grow the paper's readership and views ten times since the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year.
Zack also works for the non-profit website Punknews.org as a band interviewer. In late 2008 he was promoted onto the Punknews Staff where he interviews bands and reviews CDs for the website. Zack has interviewed The Gaslight Anthem, Less Than Jake (twice), Streetlight Manifesto, The Swellers, River City Rebels, Ninja Gun (twice), Good Old War, Andrew W.K., Apologies I Have None (twice) and The Artist Life.
Zack also contributes a segment to the podcast IssueOriented called InfluenceOriented, looking at the influences and covers that made today’s musicians fall in love with playing music. His first segment appeared on episode 44.
Zack loves to take pictures. His favorite shots are of abandoned buildings and urban decay. In the spring of 2008 Zack filmed, directed and produced his own documentary about the abandoned mental facility Rosewood, located in Owings Mills, Maryland. Filming included traumatic experiences with the fecal matter of the homeless and adventures around mountainous piles of broke wheelchairs.
In 2009 Zack created an iPhone application called RTD Mobile Bus Times. He hopes that it will become the primary navigation app for the state of Colorado.
