An insider discusses the Apple Tablet.
I’m confused a little puzzled about the upcoming Apple Tablet based on varying rumors and just the idea of the device.
The Tablet will be priced from $700-$900 and will have 10 inch screen, that much seems to be consistent across all of the reports that have been finding their way onto Apple rumor sites. It’s a high-end Apple-style netbook but they won’t call it a netbook, obviously.
According to this article, the source claims that there will be two versions: “one with a webcam and one for educational use.”  What I can’t figure out is why there isn’t one model with a webcam that can be used for educational purposes.
Apple doesn’t offer Macbooks in Webcam and Educational versions. Why would they do that with the Tablet? Why not just throw a webcam in there, like they do with every other device that they sell that’s bigger than an iPod?
Also, an educational specific Tablet would mean what, exactly? The only thing that I can think of is something with a processor powerful enough to handle iMovie, Keynote, Pages and iPhoto or Photoshop. That would mean though that Tablet-specific versions of iMovie and iPhoto are also in the works with enhanced multi-touch features specifically for students who want to use the Tablet as their main computer.
Remember that the Tablet gave birth to the iPhone initially so what features does the iPhone have that the Tablet is also likely to have?
First and foremost, some new iteration of the App Store specifically for the Tablet is a must. A dock like the one pictured above is also pretty likely for ease of use. Other than that I have a hard time imagining anything other than a big iPhone, probably because all of the pictures of the Tablet show an oversized iPhone presented as the new Tablet.
Another big question mark that I have, and I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking this is, how is the user going to type on a Tablet? Is it the kind of thing that they’ll lay down flat and press the bottom portion of the glass or will there be some Apple revolution in text input? An external keyboard that users would have to lug around probably isn’t what Apple has in mind so how do we type on this new device?
I wouldn’t be surprised if it launches with 1 USB port (for a mouse/keyboard/CD drive/iPod synch), built-in Bluetooth, no speakers (to conserve space), the App Store/iTunes, a headphone jack and some way for the device to serve as an external screen for another Macbook or iMac.
