This is one of the first unofficial (read: possibly fake) screenshots from Google’s upcoming Chrome OS. As you can see from the top bar, the OS is primarily going to be used for Google’s web applications. From left to right, Chrome, Gmail, Reader, Maps, Docs, Calendar, YouTube and a search box.
From the announcement of the Chrome OS Google has said that operating systems as we know them were built in a time before the Internet so the Internet has been just an add-on for the past ten years or so.
This screenshot shows, if it’s real, that Google is aiming to seamlessly integrate our offline lives and online lives onto one space. They aim to blur what we traditionally think of as web applications into one singular experience.
Similar to Jolicloud but with Google flavor, albeit maybe a little too much flavor, Google’s Chrome OS is definitely something that I’m looking forward to following closely.
I’m considering buying a cheap netbook to run Jolicloud and in the future, maybe the Chrome OS.
