Last night for my birthday, Devon took me to see Cirque Du Soleil’s Kooza, a jaw-dropping set of acrobatics, music and movement.
After a half hour in I realized that I had a child-like smile plastered to my face as I watched things that no normal human should do. The picture above, is a contraption they call the “Wheel of Death” where after it finishes rotating counter-clockwise with both of those guys in it, one guy goes on the outsides and proceeds to run around, jump rope and flail in the air all while being completely in control, suspended 20 feet over the ground. The Wheel of Death was the best part of the show, for me.
In between feats of strength and stupidity are narratives about a boy who’s lost in life complete with incredible music that changes to capture the mood and intensity of every scene, story arc and acrobatic endeavor.
If you have the chance to see Kooza (which is in Denver until October 4), please, please go see it. It will change your life; it will bring you back to a point in your life where you were a child in awe, moments that seem to vanish after the realities of the real world start to bear down. Kooza was one of the best sets of two hours I’ve experienced this year. (photo via)
