During the Great Depression, Sterlingville saw a revival of hydraulic mining. The mines operated from 1933 to 1957.The mines devastated the surrounding landscape, washing away nearly all the soil, and moving piles of rocks downstream. After the mines closed, the town was abandoned and destroyed. I miss Rosewood, my usual ghostly haunts. Ever since the state of Maryland closed the facility and put actual cops on the grounds, it makes risking trespassing a little, well, riskier. I’m also about 2000 miles away from Rosewood. I guess I’ll just need to find some abandoned places to explore in Colorado.
