Wolfram Alpha’s $50 iPhone app
Ranked number 44 in the Reference category of the App Store, Wolfram Alpha’s behemoth $50 application is apparently selling. They don’t need to sell many apps at 50 dollars to work their way up into the ratings, however.
The price point to me seems astronomical. Why pay fifty bucks when their website is free?
iTunes lists their app as weighing in at a mere half of a megabyte which means that your $50 just gets you an iPhone-optimized connection to their website. I love Wolfram Alpha for obscure facts about certain dates, phases of the moon, and dead celebrity birthdays but what sucker would possibly but this app?
If you need calculator in your pocket that’s capable of graphing and calculus than there are options for that are far cheaper than $50…by about 49 dollars. Google will give you the rest of the information you’ll probably need and Google is free too. What both of them don’t have, Wikipedia will surely have.
Save your money.
