Pitch Night notes
Before last night I had never pitched an idea to an audience, at least not and audience of executives and other entrepreneurs. I’m taking part in the CU New Venture Challenge, an entrepreneurial contest run through the University of Colorado whose ultimate goal is to teach students how to run a business, right a business plan and create their own start-ups.
One guy pitched his idea for a Kava bar in Boulder. Kava is a root that can be ground up and put in water. The drink numbs the face and brings people together in a different way that beer and hard alcohol. Another pitch came from a woman who had suffered a brain injury, she wanted to start a brain fitness venture to help people prepare for standardized tests through unorthodox brain training regiments.
As one would expect in Boulder, Colorado, there is a lot of emphasis on going green. There were green technology pitches everywhere: new restaurant ventures that wanted to reduce pollution and waste by going from the farm to the table more efficiently and solar backpacks with the capabilities of recharging gadgets as you hike.
And then I came up and I pitched the next version of RTD Mobile Bus Times that I’m eager to get into development. I want the next version and future versions to be the ultimate travel application for the state of Colorado. You read Frommer’s before you go to a new state or new country, why not download an iPhone app that can provide similar information?
I got a positive response from the crowd, some laughs and a few people who came up to me and told me they had my app, told me how I could improve it and what they’d like to see. I even had a few people come up wanting to integrate their ideas into my iPhone app.
Overall last night was a fun one, more fun than I thought I would have. The search continues for my iPhone developer in Boulder. When I get back: tech meet-ups.
For now: back to my blog. I’ve missed blogging.
