Goodbye MP3’s, Hello Code

Rolling Stone has an article about how Neil Young, John Mellincamp, Elvis Costello and other artists are now fighting for new hi-fi digital formats. The new format is called Code and it “aims to do for music what THX did for movie-theatre sound.”

The first album released in Code format will be John Mellencamp’s “Life, Death, Love and Freedom.” It will also have “iPod-playable AAC files ripped straight from the master tracks” which will still be better quality than the MP3 norm of today.

Elvis Costello plans to be the second artists to release an album in Code format.
